We are so excited about being a vendor at the Bridal Extravaganza in Dothan, Alabama this weekend! There were hundreds of brides that came through as well as numerous family and friends of the brides. It seems that September is the hot month for wedding this year. 90% of the brides that came through are planning a September wedding.

Chapel Wedding and Outdoor Reception in Alabama

Ryan and Natalie chose Sweet Gum Bottom Wedding Chapel and an outdoor reception for their beautiful ceremony. It was a gorgeous day and the temperature was absolutely perfect!

The chapel was decorated using sparkleberry bushes and adorned with lighted candles. Lanterns and candles illuminated the evening ceremony.

Being a musician, Ryan chose a life size, guitar for his groom's cake. It was a delicious carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Natalie chose a vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting. Peach and ivory roses were placed on top and scattered on the Bride's table.

We catered a beautiful wedding on a farm in Crenshaw County, Alabama. The setting was absolutely beautiful and the weather was perfect. Living on a farm, the natural theme would be country and it was done beautifully!

Following the wedding the guests were invited to the reception are under a tent in the back yard.

A Country Wedding Affair at an Alabama Wedding Chapel

Ashleigh and Cameron chose an Alabama Wedding Chapel for their country themed wedding. Sweet Gum Bottom Wedding Chapel was decorated in fall colors with mums and pumpkins.

Each window held a fall arrangement of pumpkins and greenery.

Following the ceremony, friends and family were invited to a reception in the Reception center. A walkway lined with horseshoes directed the path.

Once inside the room was beautifully decorated in a country and fall

Wedding Chapel for a South Alabama Ceremony

Sweet Gum Bottom Wedding Chapel, in South Alabama, was the location for two beautiful ceremonies this weekend. The first one was Friday evening. It was going to be in the garden area of the bed and breakfast, but with the heat, the bride elected to move inside the chapel. Fantastic idea! It was cool and comfortable!

Following a sweet ceremony performed by her nephew (Minister), the couples enjoyed a steak dinner prepared at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast. To top the evening off, they were treated to a one hour, private, ballroom dance lesson. This was a lot of fun! We all enjoyed it
very much!

Catering for an Alabama Rehearsal Dinner

We were honored to cater the rehearsal dinner for Ashley Peak and Brent Salter. They chose a menu of fresh green salad, stuffed pork tenderlion, baked potatoes, green beans, rolls and caramel cheesecake for dessert. Yummy!

The tables were decorated using a centerpiece of cedar wedges. Tall vases were filled with green split peas, flowers and wooden accent pieces. So fitting for a groom's rehearsal dinner.

Baby Showers for little boys

Something is in the air and it is little boy baby showers. We have had a so many lately and all of them but one were for little boys. It must be something in the water.

Last Saturday we catered a baby shower brunch for proud parents of a baby boy. So it was "all out" in blue. Served for this occasion was fresh fruit salad served on a bed of spring greens, parmesean cheese grits with delicious shrimp and sauce and rolly rounds (bread).

Congratulations to the families of this sweet baby boy!

Later that afternoon, at Sweet Gum Bottom Reception Center, we kept the "all out" in blue theme going for yet another family expecting a baby boy. It is so sweet to see friends and families supporting new parents and showering them with blessings for a new born baby.

Jonathan and Elizabeth's outdoor summer wedding

We had a beautiful outdoor summer wedding this weekend. It was hot, but beautiful! Elizabeth and Jonathan were blessed with friends and family attending their wedding and reception. A large, shaded, oak tree was the backdrop for the ceremony. Shades of pink and ivory flower balls were hung from the banches.

A tent was provided for the food area, catered by Sweet Gum Bottom B&B. A wide menu of smoked brisket, shrimp and grits, cheesy potato bake, broccoli salad, marinated vegetables, pasta salad, oriental salad and manderin orange and rice salad was served for a 11:30 lunch. Also, rolls and plenty of liquids to cool everyone down. Delicious brides cake, groom's cake and tea cakes were enjoyed by everyone.

Summer Outdoor Wedding Tips

We love our outdoor weddings here at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast and would like to pass on some tips to help you plan your outdoor event.

1. If using lighted candles, place them in glass hurricanes to prevent them from blowing out.

2. Keep in mind the terrain of the wedding isle. High heels can get caught in the grass and cause a stumble down the isle.

3. Face guests away from the sun.

4. If your cake is going to be outside as well, choose a firmer icing to prevent a meltdown.

5. Be sure to have plenty of liquids. Your guests will be thirsty.

6. Provide your guests a fan. A good way to do that is have the rpogram in the shape of a fan.

7.In the summer, use resin chairs. Metal becomes very hot when in the sun.

8. Be mindful of foods that do not hold their temperature well, (such as mayo).

9. Have items secure so that wind does not pose a problem.

10. Have a backup plan.

A Sunflower Wedding

Our bride this weekend chose the sunflower as her wedding flower, and the sun was certainly shining on them. Tables, centerpieces and accessories were all in Sunflower style. For their alternative to the unity candle, they had hand painted a sunflower. During the ceremony they each put their personal touch on the artwork. A very special memory was created at their wedding, that will last a lifetime.

Come to South Alabama to bask in the sun

This week we have had two couples from the north to stay with us in South Alabama. One couple was from Michigan and one today from Maine. Both left a lot of snow behind. And what beautiful weather they have had here!

In talking it seems to be whether you like snow, and a lot of it, or tornadas and hurricanes. I think I will have to choose the south even though it does have it's weather woes. I just don't know if I could shovel snow all winter long.

Both couples seem to be proud to have a little break from all the cold weather they have had. So both are headed to seperate locations in Florida to enjoy warmer temperatures. Have a great time and we'll see you again next year!

Brandi and Warren chose a wedding chapel in Alabama to "tie the knot". It was a rainy day at Sweet Gum Bottom, but nothing could dampen the spirits of this lovely bride. One of the cutest pictures I have ever seen was the one of Brandi in her wedding dress and rain boots walking to the chapel. Too cute!

An Alabama Chapel wedding for Brandon and Erika

Erika and Brandon chose Sweet Gum Bottom Wedding Chapel in Andalusia, Alabama for their wedding ceremony and reception. The chapel was simply decorated and naturally beautiful. Her colors were black, garnett red and silver. These same colors were used in the reception center to decorate the tables and buffets.

A menu of roast beef, cheesy potato bake, green beans, rolls and fresh vegetables with dip were deliciously prepared and served by Sweet Gum Bottom Catering. Strawberries and a chocolate fountain for the groom's table was chosen by Brandon.

Friends and family gathered to celebrate with Erika and Brandon on their special day.

Andalusia Homecoming 2010

We would like to invite you to "Absolutely Andalusia" Homecoming 2010. The dates are November 11-14, 2010. It will be four-day, fun-filled event. Governor Riley has designated 2010 as the year of celebrating Alabama’s small towns and downtowns.

The celebration will begin by honoring our veterans on Thursday, November 11. There will be a parade, followed by a ceremony at our Veterans Memorial Park. After the ceremony there will be a dedication of an historical marker at city hall, with a reception to follow. Brigadier General Walter D. Givhan will be our keynote speaker. You will not want to miss this special, patriotic event.

During our homecoming days we are planning many events to showcase our lovely city. Among them are walking tours, art shows and quilt shows, a street dance, “Andalusia in Revue,” and an air show at the South Alabama Regional Airport, and a grand gala event. Many of our area churches are planning their annual homecoming on November 14, 2010 to coincide with this time.

A wedding chapel ceremony in Alabama

Andy and Amanda chose the wedding chapel at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast in Andalusia, Alabama for their ceremony. Amanda decorated the chapel very simply in blues and yellows. A tall, fresh flower centerpiece was their backdrop for their 10:00am ceremony. Friends and family were there to help them celebrate.

After the wedding, everyone was invited to a luncheon in the reception center. A menu of prime rib, potato bake, green beans, rolls and a salad was served. Dessert of pecan pie was topped off with a slice of wedding cake. Catering was by Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast.

An Alabama Chapel Wedding for Miranda and Garrett

A wedding chapel in Andalusia, Alabama was chosen by Miranda and Garrett. It was beautifully decorated in colors of blues and yellows. Large arrangments of fresh flowers flanked the garden trellis. It was a picture of summertime.

Following the ceremony, everyone was invited to a reception in their honor. The reception center was decorated using the same colors with birdhouses and benches as place around the room. It was so quaint and very much in keeping with the couples lifestyle. I love it when weddings are personal to the bride and groom.

Bridesmaid Luncheon for Hannah Veasey

We really enjoyed catering a bridesmaid luncheon for Hannah Veasey. The menu she chose was a grilled chicken garden salad with rolls and fresh fruit. For dessert she selected homemade bread pudding with lemon sauce. I think everyone wated to eat dessert first. Yummy!

Her aunt, Doris Tyler was the hostess for the day. The reception center was decorated using summer colors of Gerber daiseys (my Favorite). The tables were beautifully decorated as well, with different styles of napkins all in a pleasing color family with the daisys. It was beautiful!

A South Alabama Beach wedding and reception

Brittany and Jeffery Odom were married at the beach and held their reception at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast in South Alabama. The reception center was transformed into a tropical paridise. White drapes flowed in the wind as guests arrived and walked down the lighted, tiki torch walkway.

Her colors were aqua and seafoam and her decorations were all things pertaining to the beach. The tables were beautifully decorated with beach sand and sea shells. Both the brides table and grooms table were so pretty with beachy decor.

For their guests, they chose a buffet of smoked brisket, martini potato bar with the trimmings, green beans, rolls and a fruit, vegetable and chocolate arrangement. Tiffanie and Brandon were married in a beautiful garden wedding in South Alabama. She chose the fragrant Jasmine covered pagoda as the special place to recite their vows.

Friends and family came from different locations to help celebrate this happy occasion with them. Chairs were lined to form the isle that she walked down. It was such a wonderful time for them!

Following the wedding, everyone was invited to the garden reception. A white tent was decorated and full of food! It was a fun afternoon and the memories will last a lifetime!

Catering Mother's Day brunh in Elba Alabama

We had the best time catering a brunch for the Mother's at First Assembly of God Church in Elba Alabama. eather and all of her helpers did a fantastc job decorating the life center in a beach theme. You could almost hear the ocean in the background. There were about 85 ladies and we enjoyed meeting them and celebrating a fun occasion.

The menu they chose was delicious! Sausage pinwheels, Quiche Lorraine, Southern Grits with smoked Gouta cheese, fresh fruit under a pineapple palm tree served with dips, french toast pudding with lemon syrup and lemon poppyseed bread. Yum, Yum! It was all eaten and enjoyed!

The Optometry zone meeting and dinner was this past Monday evening. It is always good to see these men at the meeting. Dr. Algood of Centerville Alabama gave a very informative program helping these doctors to specialize in the care and treatment of their patients.

Lollie O's Catering for Greg White's campaign in Opp, Alabama

We had a fantastic time this past Monday evening catering for a campaign kickoff for Greg White in Opp Alabama. Josh Driver with Covington Eye Care, opened with a few words of encouragment, followed by Greg White. There was a time for question and answering which gave everyone a chance to hear from Greg on their topic of interest.

Dr. and Mrs. Burgess were gracious enough to host this event in their lovely home. The food was centered in the formal dining room with beverages and coffee being served by the friends of Greg and Jan White. The menu they chose for this event was fresh fruit, and vegetables with various dips, Bacon and swiss dip with crackers, ranch and bacon sndwich wraps, marinted cheeses, Chocolate chip ball with nilla wafers, lemon and chewy cookies.

"Time Out" is just what you can give your Mom for Mother's Day. Time out at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast. We will have everything peaceful and quiet...just like she likes it! A bottle of sparling juice for her to sip while lounging in the jacuzzi, dessert in the evening while relaxing in the garden and a comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. We'll let her sleep late and have a delicious breakfast for her when she wakes up! What more could a Mom ask for, Oh...and she can bring someone with her if she likes or she can come by self.

Our 2nd Mother's Day package is a "Time Out, Day Package". Start your morning off here at the bed and breakfast with a delicious breakfast then relax the rest of the day in the peace and quiet. Beautiful outdoor sping receptions

It is beautiful this spring and we had a wonderful time with our wedding guests this weekend! Libby Gantt, daughter of Kyle and Susan Gantt was married in a beautiful Catholic ceremony and the weather was absolutely gorgeous for their outdoor reception in the gardens at their home.

On Friday evening we prepared a rehearsal dinner hosted by the grooms mom, Ms. Liz Cotter. She chose a delicious menu of prime rib, cheesy potato bake, green bean bundles and rolls. Along side of this menu was a fresh salad and corn and crawfish soup (soup, prepared by Liz). Chocolate cake, the brides favorite, was served for dessert. What a wonderful evening!

The next morning, the bridesmaids and all the ladies of the 2 families, met here at the bed and breakfast for a Bridesmaid's Brunch. A sausage and cheese casserole, grits with gouda cheese, home made biscuits and jellies, smoked sausage, fresh fruits and apple crisp was among the items served. What a great time of mingling and sharing of both families.

We are having a fabulous time doing our spring landscaping! The weather is pretty and the flowers are blooming like they are glad to be here! I'm sure every Alabama Bed and Breakfast is hard at work sprucing things up for the spring and summer! Check one out and see what you think!

Bed and breakfasts are great little get away places and the gardens are usually beautiful this time of year! We have planted impatience, sun colius, dusty miller, and I can't recall all of the other things. Plus I most likely could not spell the correctly either, so just come out and look for yourself. A couples retreat in Alabama

Four Couples from all across the nation and world got together in Alabama, at Sweet Gum Bottom bed and breakfast, for a retreat from the real world. Most of these men and women are stationed at Ft. Rucker for various trainings. So, let me say THANK YOU for your service!

While here in Alabama, they decided to have a little fun and all get together for an overnight stay somewhere. So they chose us at Sweet Gum Bottom! Had a steak dinner and then loads of fun playing board games and all sorts of laughter from there after.

It is so nice to see friends have a good time and enjoy the simpler things in life! Hope to see you guys again before you leave Alabama!

Tis the season, Prom, and we are once again preparing dinner for these dashing young men and women. So call today and reserve your table for 2 or for a group of friends at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast.

The menu will be either steak or grilled chicken, baked potato, salad, tea, roll and dessert. Your choice of steak or chicken.

Mom is welcome to come and take photos before your dining begins. We have beautiful settings to capture this special event. The dinner will be at Lollie O's (our reception center) and you may take pictures at the house or in the garden areas.

Alabama Red Hatters At Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast

We had a delightful group of Red Hatters from Evergreen Alabama to join us for lunch at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast! Donna Evers is the leader of this group and does a wonderful job!!

They arrived around 11:00 and were then served a delicious meal. The menu choice was a pasta trio with 5 cheese pasta in a tomato and basil dressing, mini bowtie pasta with ranch and bacon and spinach and gorganzola cheese served in a marinara sauce. Garlic bread topped the plate. For dessert, a medley of carrot cake, chocolate fudgecake, mocha cake and chocolate with coconut filling cake was presented. They all chose their favorite and some chose more than others. LOL.

Following lunch, they were given a tour of the grounds and the Bed and Breakfast. Many of these ladies, if not all, were very familiar with the house having been moved from Evergreen. Most of them watched and I'm sure kept track of the move from their city to it's home in Sweet Gum Bottom. We are thrilled when peolple visit that have actually seen the home before it's move and restoration. The appeciation is overwhelming!

Thanks again Ladies for coming to Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast! Have fun on your next "outing" to the Govenor's Mansion.

If rattlesnakes are your thing, then the Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo is where you need to be. If art and crafts are your thing, then the Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo is where you need to be. If country music is your thing, then the Opp Rattlesnake rodeo is where you need to be.

The 2010 Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo will be held the last weekend of March 2010. The dates are Friday, March 26th and Saturday, March 27th. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 26 and at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 27

Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes have been rattling since the dawn of time, but they have been a main attraction in Opp, Alabama for the past 48 years. Mr. J.P. Jones was the mastermind behind this small-town, community event. He, along with the Opp Jaycees, first organized this event as a fun-filled, family friendly weekend with snake shows, arts and crafts, and good food. After several years, the rodeo has grown to include other activities such as beauty pageants, the Rattlin' 100 car race held at the South Alabama Speedway, snake races, buck-dancing contests, children's activities, karoke contests, musical entertainment throughout the day and the most popular Rattlin' Country Concert featuring Nashville Country Music Artists and Bands, as well as local groups. The Rattlin' country concert is held on Saturday evening. With all the activities scheduled throughout each day, we are certain The Rattlesnake Rodeo has something for everyone.

Snow pictures in Alabama

We wanted to share some of our snow pictures at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast. It is rare to see snow in Alabama, much less 6 inches. Wow!

We had a blast. All of our family was here with us and we majorly played in the snow, ALLLLLL day long!

As you can tell in the pictures, it was a beautiful site! It may not snow for a long time to come, but we will always remember this time!

Dream Wedding in South Alabama

Sweet Gum Bottom Weddings are perfect for the smaller and more intimate ceremonies. With our chapel beautifully decorated, there is not much left to do. Or you may wish to have your south alabama ceremony in the gardens, where there is nothing that needs to be done! And how nice is that!

Receptions can be held in the gardens as well or indoors at Lollie O's (our reception center). We have a bridal changing suite that is also available for the bride and her ladies.

Little Girls are made of sugar and spice...

Well, I haven't posted a picture of our little Grand Daughter in a while, so I thought I would catch you up on her status. She is 5 and 1/2 months old. Holding herself up very well and sitting up with a little assistance now and then. Giggling out loud and smiling from ear to ear.

She is too cute, but I do know that I am a little partial!

The only sad thing is she is growing up entirely too fast!

A Getaway in Alabama

We have had a fantastic weekend! The sweetest couple from Colorada was here for a Getaway in Alabama. It is always fun to have guests from far away. It gives us a chance to here about places that we might never be able to go. They're hoping to return to Washington State in the near future. That is one place that I would really love to go. It sounds beautiful! Maybe one day we can. I would like to fly to Washington and then go across o VanCoover B.C. From there I would like to take the scenic train to Whistler. That would be a dream come true!

Just in case you would like to contribute to my dream, we are gladly accepting donations! LOL

Company dinner meeting

We had a fantastic group of men out for a company dinner this evening. The menu was salad, roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls and pecan pie for dessert. Sure sounds like a man's meal to me!

Anytime your company needs a lunch or dinner prepared, give us a call and we will be happy to do it. We have a minimum of 15 and maximum of 50-60. Enjoy the privacy of Lollie O's (reception center) and not have to worry about being in a hurry to leave.

Visit an Alabama Bed and Breakfast and go antique-ing

We have had a fantastic week of guests. Our friends from Bradenton, Florida have made their 8th year visit to Alabama. They found us online right after we opened and have been every year since then and twice some years. We love to see them! Paulene and I always catch up on the antique stores all over the area. This time we went to Milton. They have several antique malls, amongst my favorites is "Copper Possumn" and Allysse's. Wonderful, unique stuff! We had a blast!

The guys always go hunting! Gary has managed to bag a couple since he has been coming. No luck this year though...they escaped his sight. He was not happy when we shared our stories of how we ALWAYS see them right here or over there or when we go down this road... yeah...not happy bout that...

Anyway, we are excited about those who visit Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast and look forward to each and every time they come! We can't wait for YOU to get here!

I am so pumped up. We had our annual Bed and Breakfast Association of Alabama conference today and it was so much fun. We got to visit with all the other bed and breakfast owners across the state and catch up on a whole years worth of "stuff"! We had 1 very informative speaker and 1 very humerous and uplifting speaker, so we are primed and ready to put forth our best effort in 2010.

The Year of Alabama Small Towns & Downtowns is the theme of tourism for 2010. Alabama is hosting one big yearlong party. Come and experience the best of Alabama this year during the Year of Alabama Small Towns and Downtowns celebration.

New years wedding at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast

Brock Davis and Holly Johnson planned a new years wedding at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast. It was a very intimate and sweet ceremony. With close friends and family to share the beautiful occasion.

They arrived around 10:00am on the 2nd of January. After shooting some gorgeous photos, the couple made their way to the chapel. The bride entered the chapel to the traditional wedding march. It was a simple, yet beautiful, ceremony.

Following the wedding everyone was invited to the bed and breakfast for a reception. Cake and punch was served as the bride and groom visited with all of the guests.

This year (as usual) they chose rib eye steaks, baked potatoes, rolls and bread pudding. The different item was Shrimp and lobster bisque. Yum!

40th Birthday Party for Cecelia Heyers

We hosted a surprise 40th Birthday Party for Cecelia Heyers. Her husband planned all of the details without her knowing a thing about it. She thought she was going to have a relaxing weekend away for her birthday, and she did... but with a little surprise.

After breakfast, they left for a little shopping in Andalusia. They were going to return for their bags after lunch. While they were away, friends and family arrived to decorated the reception center. As soon as everything was prepared we gave him a call to return to pick up their things.

Chuck, her husband and planner of the event, stopped at the reception center to pay for the overnight stay. As soon as they came through the door everyone sang 'Happy Birthday" to Cecelia. She was so shocked! She did not have a clue as to what was going on.

After lots of hugs and laughter they enjoyed a meal prepared by Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast. Following was a birthday cake cutting and gifts. She was thrilled about it all!

Thanks Chuck for choosing Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast for your wife"s first birthday party in her whole life! It was fantastic!

Andalusia Manor's Christmas Luncheon

Andalusia Manor's Christmas Luncheon was held at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast on Dec.10th. Everyone arrived around 11:00, complete with gifts to exchange. After lunch they gathered around the Christmas tree to play a game of gift giving. Laughter was abounding! It is good to see people enjoying themselves and having a good time!

That evening Sav-a-life held a Christmas reception for their volunteers and counselors. Mrs. Diane Gray did a wonderful job as hostess along with some good helpers! Thank you Ms. Diane!

The hatless hunnies of the Red Hat Club

Elba's Hatless Hunnies of the Red Hat club joined us at Sweet Gum Bottom Bed and Breakfast for a Christmas lunch. They had so much fun and with such, we did too! When they were finishing their meal and beginning dessert, I chose a funny reading from Rebel Covan's book "I know why the Manatee Swims Naked, I've Shopped for a Bathing Suit too!". We laughed until we couldn't laugh anymore. I didn't know whether to bill them for the meal or the entertainment. It was both great!!!

Thank you to Marsha Ogg and her sister, JoAnn Cannon, Mrs. Williams (from the Christmas tree farm) and all of the Hatless Hunnies for coming to Sweet Gum Bottom! It was a special treat for us~
